Ordination & Installation of Officers
January 6th, 2008
At the annual meeting on November 20th, the
congregation approved the calling of all the nominees for elder
and deacon. The new elders & deacons will be formally installed
into their offices after the morning worship on January 6th. New
mem to the positions will be ordained.
Ordaining elders and deacons is a procedure
that imitates the practice of the early church. In Acts 6, when
the church at Jerusalem selected seven special servants, the apostles
laid their hands on these men and prayed, officially setting the
men apart for their ministry (Acts 6:6). Later, "Paul and Barnabas
appointed(some translations have 'ordained') elders" in the churches
they had esablished in the first missionary journey (Acts 14:23).
It is a formal setting apart of men to service, and a time to pray
for God's blessing on their work. It will also be a time for the
congregation to express their desire for the men to lead in these
special roles.
The ordination/installation will take place
immediately after the morning service. Pat Lasley will be ordained
as elder. He and returning elders Bill Butts, Mel Edgar, Terry
Miller, Carl Reed and Jon Underwood will be installed as elders
for 2008. (Randy Fields, who was approved by the congregation,
has decided not to accept the call to serve as elder in 2008.)
Tod Blanton, Jon goebel, Dave Phelps, and Joel Underwood will be
ordained as deacons. The will join Gary Chronic and be installed
into the office of deacon for 2008.
Please be in prayer for these men as they
approach their role of ministry. Payer and fasting often accompained
an ordiation in the New Testament, and you are invited to spend
the Saturday before this service (January 5) in paryer and fasting
for these officers.
Celebration of Life
January 20th, 2008

life was the light of men." On Sunday, January 20th, we will recognize
the wonderful gift of life to the families who clelbrated the birth

IF JESUS SHOULD COME IN SANTA’S STEAD
If Jesus should come in
Santa Claus’ stead,
He’d not come with reindeer, sleigh bells or
sled;
A trumpet would herald His glorious approach
And heavenly clouds would serve as His coach. (I
Thess. 4:16-18)
The Shekinah glory would
make Christmas bright,
With candles not needed for He’d be the light.
We’d bow to His sovereignty on bended knee
And forget all about Santa’s glorified tree
(Rev. 22:5-7)
He’d not look for stockings,
but hearts He could fill,
With love, joy and peace tucked in with good will.
And folk would be trying to make all wrongs
right,
Confession and pardon would be their delight (Eph.
4:31,32)
No strife or vain glory
would they pursue;
But love and forgiveness be granted anew.
Hearts would rejoice and souls would be fed,
If Jesus should come in Santa Claus’ stead (Phil.
2:3-5)
Think not too lightly
of this simple rhyme,
But stay on your guard! He is coming sometime.
The day nor the hour we cannot avow;
But would we be ready if He should come NOW (Matt
25:13)
